This coin ring features the "Great" Seal of the State of Texas which was adopted through the 1845 Texas Constitution and based on the seal of the Republic of Texas. The coin ring's reverse depicts the Gonzales Cannon, originally given to the citizens of Gonzales Texas by Mexico for protection against Indian raids. In 1835 after growing political unrest the Mexican Army returned to request the cannon back. The citizens refused and after rallying aid from the surrounding community raised a flag picturing the cannon with the phrase "Come and Take it". The resulting skirmish marked what is considered to be the first battle of the Texas Revolution.
