This coin ring features artwork from the artist Alphonse Mucha, father of the Art Nouveau "New Art" period from 1890-1910. Alphonse Mucha completed Ivy in 1901 and was produced for a young Parisian dancer, using the stage name of Lygie. Lygie made her reputation at the Folies-Bergere staging most of Mucha's posters and decorative panels. Lygie's true name is not known as well as the reason Mucha would have created a poster specifically for her. Whatever the relationship between Mucha and Lygie, her show, opened March 7, 1901 and was received with great fanfare.
